4 of the 15 tourist hostages were killed while one was seriously wounded. As seen on the television, there were six others who crawled out of the bus after the moving in of the assault teams of the police force.
The police commandos had their rifles drawn as they paved their way around the bus. They used sledgehammers in order to slam the windows. The emergency exit was even opened as emergency vehicles united in the rain.
Gunfire began to fill the air. The man recognized as the gunman was flabby and seemingly dead by the main door of the bus, but his fate was not confirmed right away.
The driver of the bus was able to free himself from the handcuffs the hostage-taker had set on him earlier. After jumping through a window, he ran and screamed to a group of journalists that everybody is already dead. The assault was triggered by his outbreak.
At least nine hostages had been set free earlier, three of which were Filipinos.
The hostage drama started at 10 in the morning when Rolando Mendoza, 55, a former police officer, boarded a Hong Thai Travel tour bus and took it hostage.
Rolando Mendoza had demanded his job and benefits to be returned after having been dismissed last year after an extortion case.
